George Clooney arriving with his date for his movie Men Who Stare At Goats

The Venice Film Festival was held as usual in Lido di Venezia, from 2- 12 th Sept. About 231 films were shown – amongst them foreign films including hollywood/american films with known actors like Matt Damon, George Clooney and Ewan McGregor.  I only caught one film this time, it was the Men Who Stare At Goats – hilarious satire of the other war method in Iraq. You cannot buy the tickets too advance, the most is 2 weeks before the start of the festival. If you go to the official site, you can buy your tickets online with a little fee.  But if you wish to get your tickets at the box office in Lido, you can only buy them on the day itself!

Being Italy, you are also not likely to know which films will be featured in this festival in advance.. programme could change up to the last min!  So you just have to be on a constant look out at their official site for the latest information. Be prepared for a little chaos as to where the box office is, it is behind the Casino.

The Red Carpet

So for more on the film festival each year, here is the official site

Tips : at 8am each morning , go to the ticket box office counter and there are free tickets for the films showing on that day to be given away. For star gazing, each evening around 5.30pm stake a spot in front of the barricade at the Red Carpet area – you may just get lucky! Another site would be close to the EXCELSIOR hotel , the boat arrival pier of this hotel is where the film directors, actors, actresses arrive for the evening gala premier.

The red carpet area will always be where the Casino is. There is also an extra express Vaporetto line from Piazzale Roma to Lido Casino stop that takes 30 mins.
